The Committee

Sarah Bell – President

I joined Divas in 2016 mainly to meet new friends. I was secretary for two years then took a year off from the Committee when I semi retired after 38 years in the NHS. I have 2 sons. Following my eldest getting married and youngest leaving school I decided right time to return to the Committee which I had missed.  I re-joined as Welfare Co-ordinator & Programme Secretary and then in 2019 I took up the President role. Looking forward to serving you to help Divas continue to grow and develop further.

Lesley

Lesley Porter – Secretary

Lesley joined Taunton Deane Divas in May 2015. Since then she has made good use of her membership and has enjoyed lots of outings within our group and with Somerset Federation. In her spare time (in between looking after her Grandchildren) likes to craft and enjoys trying new craft ideas. Lesley loves to read and swim, but not at the same time, and has a large garden which she like to potter in. Lesley says “In 2015 I was due to retire from work and thought joining the WI may be a good idea and it was!  To me the WI means meeting people making new friends and having fun. I am looking forward to the next chapter of my WI journey by being a member of the Taunton Deane Divas committee.”

Debbie Tyzack – Treasurer

I joined Taunton Divas in 2015 after speaking to two ladies at Taunton Flower Show on a recruitment drive. They promoted activities, outings and events, it appeared that all events seemed to feature “wine.” I thought I could do that and so I went along and was impressed how friendly and vibrant the group was. I joined the committee in May 2016 and enjoyed being a part of organising events etc. I then took over the Treasurer role jointly in 2017, which is certainly a challenge! I worked for NHS for 22 years before retiring in 2017 employed both at Musgrove Park and latterly with Sexual Services in Taunton. One of our speakers, a colleague gave us an insight into the “menopause” which was very informative and humorous too. I enjoy cooking so long as a glass of wine accompanies it. I also participate in regular Pilates class and will be joining a Somatics class in 2019.

Maggie Daley – Assistant Treasurer

I joined Taunton Divas in 2015 not long after it was formed. I joined the committee shortly afterwards and took on the task of Treasurer. This was short lived as my husband was diagnosed with cancer and sadly died shortly afterwards. I became assistant treasurer in 2018. My husband was in the Royal Navy for 24 years and later we had an hotel in Bournemouth for 10 years, followed by 2 years in Dubai. On our return we moved to Taunton to be close to our daughter. I have a son in California, who until COVID, I managed to see regularly. I look forward to seeing the Divas grow from strength to strength once again after the difficult time we have all had over the last two years.

Sue Cleave – Membership    Communication System (MCS) Representative

I joined Taunton Deane Divas in 2019, to make new friends, get involved with social events and to enjoy days out. I retired at the end of July 2020, having worked for Somerset County Council for 39 years, and latterly for Somerset Care for 7 years as a Finance Administrator at the Halcon Centre caring for Younger Adults with Physical Disabilities. When the opportunity arose to be the MCS rep for the Divas I thought I had the right type of admin experience to use the relevant database, and keep the spreadsheets up to date. Being a member of the committee has enabled me to get to know more of the members, and become more involved generally. I have 2 grown up children a son and daughter, and love cats, and like to travel and visit places of interest.

Sue Squire – Refreshment Organiser

I joined the Divas in 2015 as I was going to retire and was looking for a social outlet which I have found in our meals out and outings which I really enjoy and have made some lovely new friends. I joined the committee in 2019 and am enjoying the refreshment role, especially the wine. I actually do still work 2 mornings a week and volunteer 1 morning at Sue Ryder and at the Brewhouse theatre a few times a month. I am looking forward to more outings as I like to walk, especially by the sea. I also enjoy reading, dancing and going to see shows.

Ann Beach – Groups Coordinator

Hailing from East London, I moved to Taunton in 2018 and joined Divas in March 2019 to make friends and pursue new interests. 6 months later I became a member of the Committee. I retired in 2017 from a 40 year career in International Private Banking Wealth Management, during which time my roles included Sales Supervision, Operational Risk and Compliance. Passionate about animals, I volunteer at the RSPCA and also at the League of Friends at Musgrove Park hospital. Being Groups Coordinator is something I really enjoy as it aligns perfectly with my interests which include travel, walking, learning new skills, reading and dining out.

Janet Rettner – Divas Day Trip Coordinator

Originally from South London, I moved to Taunton in 2015. I recently joined Taunton Deane Divas after finding out about the local W.I group from a friend. Having attended my first meeting as a guest, I knew I wanted to sign up as a member before the evening had ended! In between paid work and volunteering, I enjoy exploring new places and visiting friends and family here and abroad. As a new member of the Committee I am looking forward to organising social events and days out for the Divas.
